The Annual Spring Conference will be held May 10-12 ,2023 at the beautiful Sunriver Resort
After a multi-year pause due to COVID-19, OAESD was excited to hold the Spring Conference in-person at the beautiful Sunriver Resort in Central Oregon, March 9-11, 2022. This year’s theme was “Reconnection,” and we had a wonderful time fostering our statewide reconnection through the multitude of opportunities at the Conference. The conference kicked off on Wednesday with the Governance Council meeting and then a Vendors Reception. Thursday started with a thoughtful welcome and introduction by OAESD’s president, Paul Andrews, and OAESD’s Chair, Kelly Bissinger, titled “Reconnecting as an Association.” We then heard from keynote speaker Trudy Arriaga who authored Opening Doors, an Implementation Template for Cultural Proficiency. She shared inspiring stories of leadership and practices that can be implemented in our own communities. She also presented during the breakout sessions on actions reflecting our values. Trudy shared the journey of how one district transformed from unintentionally participating in practices that marginalized students and their communities to being committed and successful in making the education of all students a common priority. In the afternoon we heard Stories from Around the State: Equity Panel Presentation. The day continued with six breakout sessions showcasing topics including: Co-Developing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Education Practitioners within Complex Organizations; Grounding Conversations: The Journey of Multnomah ESD; Workforce Readiness: Partnering Toward a Thriving Future; Our Equity Journey in the Midst of a Pandemic; Building Relationships Across Difference: Dialogic Approaches to Centering Race in Equity Education. The evening concluded with the President’s Reception followed by the banquet dinner and recognition ceremony. During the banquet we heard from Brent Barry, Oregon Superintendent of the Year. On Friday, Ethelyn Tumalad, Oregon Teacher of Year presented to the group as well as Joan Wade, Executive Director, Association of Education Service Agencies. We then heard from Ann Hargraves, Professional Learning Coach, on the topic The We in Wellbeing. Continuing with our conference theme, Kelly Bissinger, OAESD Board Chair, Joe McElligott, IMESD Board Vice Chair, and Mark Mulvihill, IMESD Superintendent presented on “Strengthening ESD relationships for those we serve.” As the conference concluded, Amber Eaton, OAESD Executive Director presented “OAESD’s Statewide Leadership in the Coming Years.” Thanks to everyone that attended the Spring Conference. A big thanks to Frontline, Inflexion, PACE, Moda, Corwin and Promethean as event sponsors and to the exhibitors that joined us. It is not too early to be thinking about next year’s conference that will be at SunRiver Resort from May 10 to 12. We would love to hear ideas and topics. Hope to see you there!
